GourmetGiftBaskets.com, #238 on the Inc. 5000 list of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the U.S., broke the Guinness World Record in August 2009 for the World's Largest Cupcake. Enjoying the challenge and accomplishment of breaking a world record, GourmetGiftBaskets.com president and CEO, Ryan Abood stated this will not be the last record he will “brew” up or that his company will break and it wasn't!

GourmetGiftBaskets.com: “I’m a businessman and am always thinking outside of the box to promote a fun work environment for my employees,” says Abood. “I want everyone that works for me to be successful and be proud of what they do. Breaking a record is a huge accomplishment.”

The brewing begin at 4 a.m., Friday October 15 as most of us were still sleeping(at least I was). The record was officially announced by a Guinness World Record’s representative at 12 p.m. October 15.
GourmetGiftBaskets.com had a goal of 2010 gallons of coffee for 2010
Where, you might ask did all of this take place? Well, of course, at Blog World Expo, the world's largest blogging social media conference in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, South Pacific Ballroom; Booth #335.

WHY? Because Americans consume 400 million cups of coffee per day, or equivalent to 146 Billion cups of coffee per year(I myself drink 12 of those cups a day)! That makes the United States the leading consumer of coffee in the world. Abood saw this statistic and knew a record involving coffee was one to break.

At 10:54 GoumetGiftBaskets.com broke the old World Record!

Ryan was interviewed on a new show at 11 am Vegas time, called Social Media Nation with Ron Cates http://bit.ly/aIevgz.
GourmetGiftBaskets.com doubles previous record with a cup of java holding 2,010 gallons!

LAS VEGAS, NV (October 18, 2010) As declared at 12 p.m. PST by a Guinness World Record Official, GourmetGiftBaskets.com has broken the Guinness World Record for the Largest Cup of Coffee at Blog World Expo, in Las Vegas Nevada. The record in the making began brewing at 4 a.m. PST October 15 and the last cup was poured in right before 12 p.m. A giant 8x8 foot specially constructed coffee mug holds the 2,010 gallons of fresh coffee. 2,010 gallons is equivalent to 32,160 cups of fresh brewed coffee.

The previous record was set in 2007 at only 911.5 gallons. GourmetGiftBaskets.com broke this record early in the day at 7:45 a.m. and kept on going! Ryan Abood, CEO of GourmetGiftBaskets.com, saw the previous record and thought “now this will be an easy one to break.” Not quite “easy,” but definitely rewarding and something everyone at Blog World Expo, the world’s largest social media conference, has been talking about for days.

Upon breaking the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee, Abood and his team of 15 GourmetGiftBaskets.com employees also broke the Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Cup of Iced Coffee on October 16, implementing the same system they perfected with the hot cup of joe but with a little more tweaking. The iced coffee was required to be below 45 degrees and it took 3,500 pounds of ice to attain the record breaking temperature. Not to mention, they had to empty out 100 gallons of coffee to accommodate the ice and after taking all day to perfect, finally broke the record as the show’s doors were closing!

This world record required two 60 Amp 208 Volt Three Phase power supplies, two directly plumbed water lines providing 3 gallons per minute and the equivalent of 89,305 times the amount of coffee needed to brew your standard 8oz cup of coffee.

We wanted to break both records because we had this massive cup and thought, we’d be crazy not to,” says Ryan Abood, CEO of GourmetGiftBasktets.com. “We had all the tools necessary and loved the challenge!” Check out YouTube Videos documenting the iced coffee drama and the rest of their Guinness World Record experience.

Companies that aided in the breaking of these records include: Terracon Corporation of Boston supplied the storage tank that is the foundation of the cup, Chisel Productions Inc. of Georgia is constructed a coffee cup and handle around the tank using a sculpted foam with a hard polyurethane finish, Kerry/ X Cafe of Princeton, MA provided the 100 percent Columbian Arabica blend coffee, Logo Loc LTD of New Hampshire provided quality custom t-shirts, Marich Confectionary of California donated samples of their Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans and Bunn-O-Matic Corporation of Springfield, IL supplied the high volume coffee dispensers designed to meet the requirements of the world record attempt.

All proceeds to benefit Susan G. Komen for the cure.

With the help of GourmetGiftBaskets.com, Nancy is one step closer to fullfilling her promise to her sister, Susan G. Komen.

I would have loved to have been there to look down inside this gigantic cup of coffee! Can you imagine all the fun they had? All the excitement?

That's a great PR move. It made me think of all the great ways to send a gift basket, such as a birthday. They need to do an event promoting the world largest chocolate bar, or something.
