Barefoot Books Review & Giveaway (Winners Choice)

Product Information: Barefoot Books is all about exploring, giving back, imagining, creating and connecting! It’s all about exploring other cultures, our planet and ourselves. It’s making time for make-believe and letting imaginations run wild and free. Most of all, it’s about using the power of stories to nourish the creative spark in everyone and strengthen connections with family, the global community, and the earth.
Barefoot Books began with two mothers who wanted their children to have books that would feed the imagination, while instilling a respect for diversity and a love of the planet. Today they are a world wide community of writers, artists, storytellers, musicians, and others who are committed to prividing timeless stories and captivating art that can help children become happy, engaged members of a global society.
For my review, we received the following book:
The Barefoot Book of Monsters! - The grandkids (3-9 years) loved this book! It is a 6 stories, hardcover book that has 63 pages of reading that kept them interested in it. It is not a scary book, it actually helps kids overcome their fears of monsters with beautiful illustrations. The monsters are scarred of humans and the book deals with other cultures as well. It is recommended for 3-7 years of age. As a grandmother in these times when people can be really cruel to each other, I truely enjoyed reading it and also listening to my grandchildren read it and discussing what they would do in these circumstances. The stories are inspired by Folk Tales from all over the world but the book is in English.
The Terrible Chenoo-One of my grandsons has decided to use the lessons he learned from this story on a bully at his school. Hopefully over time, it will make a difference for all of them. I love that they can relate to the stories and try to use it in their own lives. It is a story about a monster named Chenoo who comes upon a husband and wife and how a little kindness changes the bad monster into a kind and considerate monster. (North American)
The Monster of the WhirlWind- This story is about frogs and what happens when you don't listen to your mother(that is what my 5 year old grandson said about it) lol. He actually said " Those little frogs should obey their mommy like I do". We all busted out laughing because he really believes he obeys her all the time. (Australian)
The Abominable Snowman- This story is about a son who never listens to his mother nor helps her. She has him move out until he can do a honest days work. The son ( Ramay) learns different things on his journey...like if you trick someone to get something you want, the same will happen to you. He finally returns home as he learns many lessons. (Nepalese)
The Girl With No Fear - This story was about a girl named Ntombi who was a princess. Her father wanted her to get married and settle down because she was mischievious and very cheeky. She was known as the girl with no fear. As much as the Chief wanted her to get married, she would not relinquish. She wanted to have many adventures first, like seeing the Ilulange River, where people said the Mother of Monsters lived. Her father introduced her to a handsome princes but she just laughed. She said none of the princes were no match for her...She wanted someone like herself that was fearless. For 3 years her father pleaded that she marry but she refused. She decided to go to the Ilulange River where she met dismay. She was swallowed up by the Mother of Monsters because of her pride. The Mother of Monsters liked the taste of people so much that she decided to come out of the water and eat them all including the animals. That is until she meets up with Sobabili who rescues the princess and saves all the other people and animals. What do you think happens next? Hmmm... Guess you will just have to read it and find out for yourself. (South African)
Rona Long-Teeth - Rona Long-Teeth is a bad monster who has a little girl that is very good. This story tells the difference between the 2 of them and how the little girl Hina, grows up to become very kind and beautiful, unlike her mother. (Tahitian)
The Feathered Ogre - This story was about how a King became sick and the only cure was a feather from The Feathered Ogre. The King offered 1/2 of his kingdom and marriage of his youngest daughter to whomever would get that a feather for him. Everyone was scared except for one of the gardeners named Pirola. Everyone was scared because the monster would capture and eat them. He even ate the King's oldest daughter. Pirola was excited about having 1/2 of the kingdom but he didn't want to marry the young princess. He sets off to get the feather. When he knocks on the monsters door, a beautiful girl answers the door. She tells him she is the Kings eldest daughter and that she had saved the others that were captured and how she cooked and cleaned for The Feathered Ogre so he didn't eat her. They get the feather from the monster and in the meantime the monster is tricked into rowing a boat forever. (Italian)

I highly recommend this book! Great stories about different monsters. The book is one of my grandkids's favorite.
